February 2010 Archives

Ate some pizza and ended up with food poisoning at the Renaissance Festival. It's been two days and I'm still not completely over it. And here I thought the Porta-Johns were the worst thing about the Festival.

yard waste for bulk trash pickup

Spent two days dragging yard trimmings out to the street for last Monday's bulk trash pickup and broke another toe when I dropped a big log on my foot so I was already not doing that great when I went to the Renaissance Festival. I guess I really should wear shoes when doing yard work.

Now that we have watched all five seasons of Farscape we have been catching up on our TV viewing and watching episodes of Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Ugly Betty and Modern Family.

I guess being a couch potato is a perfect way to spend time while recovering from doing too much yard work, breaking a toe and getting food poisoning.

Brrrrr... it's fucking cold here

A block from my house on the way to the gym my right rear tire picked up a big nasty screw. Since my Vette has run flats I went to the gym anyway.

My Vette getting its tire fixed

Tire place use to fix my flats for free since I buy my tires there but it seems business is so bad these days that they are now charging for everything. Maybe if they didn't charge $28 just to fix a flat business would be better for them.

Damn it has been cold here these last few days although I'm guessing that some wouldn't consider temps in the forties all that cold. I think I heard on the news that this has been one of south Florida's coldest winters on record.

We are supposed to go to the Renaissance Festival this weekend so hopefully our more normal warm winter weather will return by then. If not I guess we will put it off for another week as I'm still trying to warm up from our outing at Miami Metro Zoo last weekend.

I'm Frilled... we've watched all the Farscape episodes. Started watching December 30 and finished the final Farscape Monday night. Now I'm going to have to find something new to watch or actually get a life.

All is not well with how DirecTV mounted their dish. Last night after strong winds it moved enough to loose connection to one of the satellites. I pushed it back into place and tightened everything and today I ordered some braces for the dish. I probably could have gotten DirecTV back out here but four braces came out to less than $20 delivered and I can probably do a better job installing them then the sloppy work DirecTV installers do.

Another Monday

DirecTV finally moved my dish off of the chimney to the west side of the house to where I wanted it for free. It only took two weeks, dozens of phone calls and the threat of switching to U-Verse to get this done for free.

DirecTV dish

Had a romantic Valentine's day by going to Miami Metro Zoo yesterday. Thought we were going to freeze our asses off and we did at first but then it got warm enough that we were somewhat comfortable although the cold never stopped making my nose hurt. The animals were surprisingly active and we even got to watch two of them fucking in front of everyone.

Spent much of the weekend watching Farscape. After we ran out of episodes from Netfix we ended up feeding our Farscape addiction by buying the rest of season 4 from iTunes and watching all the episodes and then bought the season 5 final 3 hour movie from iTunes that we watched half of after getting home form the zoo last night. It kind of sucks that there is no more Farscape to watch after we watch the rest of this movie tonight.

It's post anti-football week

| | Comments (0)

No football this week in our football hating household so we spent most of the weekend topping the forty foot something ficus tree that was in our backyard.

Ficus tree trunk stump

It should start sprouting new branches in the next few months that I'm going to keep trimmed into a small canopy with a pole saw. At least that is the plan providing topping it didn't kill it but ficus trees seem to be all but impossible to kill.

At least we saved a bunch of money doing this ourselves. The cheapest tree cutter wanted $1500 and he was unlicensed. Professional licensed tree people wanted well over $2000 to top this tree.

I spent $200 for two electric chainsaws that I now own so that I can do more trimming around the yard.

With all the money I'm saving I can go shopping for important things like shoes, handbags and clothes.

Plus I'm turning a lot of it into firewood and the rest the city takes away for free on the forth Monday of each month that I still need to drag out to the street .

Anyway it was good exercise. :)

I thought I was done trimming trees for awhile but this morning I called DirecTV to have our dish moved off of the chimney and on to the side of the house where it won't be so noticeable and also shielded from the wind in a hurricane.

After I got off the phone with DirecTV I realized that there was a tree branch in the way of where I want the dish moved to.

So I got out the pole saw and cut the offending limb and as it came crashing down it caught the wires going to the street light in front our house yanking down the wires with a hideous sound.

The power company was real good about it though. They came right out and hooked the wires back up.

Going to be taking it easy tonight and watching more Farscape whilst vegging out on the couch.

Poulan Pro 400E ChainsawStarted my day early today by getting poked and prodded along with having my blood sucked for my annual physical.

My doctor moved into a new fancy building full of new fancy gizmos. I'm not sure if my general health was being looked after as much as my insurance was being looked after with all the tests I was given, maybe a bit of both.

Both of us have been playing lumberjacks in our backyard for the past few days with the electric chainsaws.

I've finally trimmed as much of the ficus tree in our backyard with the electric pole chainsaw that could be cut with a pole saw so I went over to Lowes and bought a Poulan 18" electric chainsaw so that we can take some of the height off the trunk. I didn't think electric chainsaws would work this well but so far it's working out much better than any gas chainsaw I've ever used. We still have about a half day of work to go.

I did manage to rip the U-verse line out of our house when a part of the tree's trunk fell on it. I hooked everything back up and everything seems to be working dispute AT&T putting some funky screws on the NID to keep homeowners out of it.

Hopefully all this tree cutting won't gives us urges for flannel shirts and lumberfucks.

Been watching episodes of Farscape for the past few weeks. We have just one more episode of season 3 to go. For some odd reason Netflix only has the first three season available for instant viewing so I've started having Netflix ship season 4 to us. I think we may go through Farscape withdrawal once we have watched all the episodes.
