Found some horrendous reviews of the hotel we were going to stay in next week for Busch Gardens that included filthy rooms and bullet holes so we called up and cancelled the reservations. The cancelation confirmation number was 666 which kind of freaked us out. Then as we are looking at other hotels to stay in we notice that the temperature on Tuesday, the day we are doing the park, is going to have a high of only 63 and a low of 38. Anything below 65 and both of us are miserable so trip to Busch Gardens is now cancelled all together.

Instead of Busch Gardens we are now trying to find out if Christine can get away from work for the Vegas show but we wont know for a few weeks.

Had planned on going kayaking today but it seems that our weather had other plans.

Got an email this morning that December 10 is Day Without Gay. Damn, more plans...

Did Thanksgiving at Christine's parents house. It was really great and was probably one of the best Thanksgivings that I've had in many years.

We gave them a Acer Aspire One 8.9-inch Mini Laptop as an early Xmas present (we only had 30 days to return it if they didn't like it) and they loved it. It came with a trial of Micro$oft Office but we put Open Office, setup Skype and replaced the IE icon with Firefox, they seemed really happy.

He parents, despite being from a very different culture and generation, are actually pretty kewl.

Had planned on going to the gym today but then ended up cleaning out closets and filling the whole back of the Scion with books, clothes, shoes, (a fucking whole lot of shoes) and all kinds of unneeded stuff. For lack of anything better to do with all the crap we took everything over to Goodwill and got a tax receipt.

Maybe I'll actually make it to the gym tomorrow...

Had this great day planned but I guess I should have known that my plans for today were going to be a wash when my partner emailed me errands for today while sitting inches from me in bed. When I finally did make it out of bed this morning it was to fix a poor page design that was breaking in Firefox that I hadn't caught when we accepted the job from the designer. We are having Turkey Day at Christine's parents so I was sent out to get a mouse for her mom. (That really would have sounded strange not long ago) Little did I know that this was going to be a two hour errand.

The one line for two cash registers is full of people with a huge pile of exchanges and returns while buying things that don't seem to have the correct price on them and their coupons seem to be good on any day but today line.

I'm standing in line with my mouse wondering if it would maybe be faster just to drive to a different store and all I can think about is the coding of the page that isn't displaying that I'm dying to get back to and fix. Maybe the wonderful checkout experience has something to do with the online stores killing the brick and mortar stores, just maybe...

Today was Christine's last day of school. We are going to celebrate with pizza and sleeping in tomorrow morning.

Today has been for the most part just another mundane day of working but I did take time out to watch last's nights episode of The Sarah Connor Chronicles with a friend that stopped by. I really like where the writers have taken the story line. It seems to be much more multidimensional then the original Terminator movies. Christine keeps on bringing home colds from the school she is interning in. No big surprise as the school hasn't had soap in the bathrooms for over a week. Their microwave broke a few weeks ago and still hasn't been replaced. Meanwhile the white school up the street has three microwaves and soap in the bathrooms. It seems nothing has changed since I was in school.

An old friend of mine that I've known for a few decades had a fabulous birthday party last night. I think this is the first townhouse that I've ever been in that had a two person elevator in it. It was great seeing so many people that I haven't seen in years and it was great introducing my partner to all of my old friends. Maybe now that my life is going well and her life is going well we will see more of each other.

I've really fallen behind in work again and spent most of today trying to get somewhat caught up. Guess I'm going to be working my ass off for the next few days.

Went down to Lincoln Road Mall in South Beach last night for dinner and just to walk around. We had a bit of a problem deciding where to eat as all three of us have very different tastes in dinning. Being a vegetarian I'm use to this. Christine and I prefer very casual eateries and eat very small meals, often just ordering an appetizer. Our friend that we brought along prefers formal three course dinning experiences and since I tortured her with eating at a pizzeria last time we wanted to go someplace more to her liking this time.

I suggested a restaurant called Torch on the way down but when we got there we discovered that it had gone out of business so we walked over to a Sushi place that we have dinned at before that is upscale and very good but when we got there we discovered construction going on outside so there was no outdoor dinning and our friend being a smoker didn't want to eat inside.

So off we walked and walked trying to choose from the plethora of restaurants along the walk. While walking our friend tripped and broke her flip flop so we had to find a place to buy new flip flops before we could eat. At this point I was willing to eat anywhere that had at least one vegetarian item on the menu so it was like whatever, lets just pick a place. Finally ended up at a place of her choosing called Aura.

The food at Aura was pretty bad, at least what Christine and I ordered. We thought it was greasy, bland, and very over priced but oddly our friend thought it was great. This is the first time that I've ever not liked something on Lincoln Road Mall but it has also been awhile since dinning there.

Lately all the food we have been getting while eating out seems to be very greasy and just not very good even at the places that previously was always very good. It seems like the restaurants are using cheaper ingredients and charging a lot more for lousier food. I think the restaurants are using cheaper stuff due to the economy trying to keep costs down.

I see a lot more home cooked meals in our future.

Ran a simple update on my main laptop last night that needed a reboot and it refused to finish booting after restarting.

It was way too late to mess with it but when I got up to pee at 5 this morning I couldn't go back to sleep thinking about my laptop not booting and how behind in work I am so had a cup of espresso and started playing Mac tech.

Turned out to have nothing to do with the update.

A few days ago I used a TechTool CD in my machine to fix another Mac that was in firewire target mode connected to my laptop and it seems that the TechTool CD installed a protection startup item that wasn't compatible with 10.5. This was the first time that I had rebooted my laptop since then so it wasn't until now that this issue showed up.

It wasn't until I had cloned over just about every piece of the OS from another laptop one at a time to see if it would boot each time that I finally started looking in the root library for what was causing the issue and noticed the new startup item in there.

Just finished today's work and my body is saying that it needs a nap...

Went to the gym mid afternoon after getting some work done. I normally don't go that late so there was a different group of people there then what I usually see. Had this nice day planned of going to the gym and then a peaceful day of getting caught up in work. Then I looked out into our porch and saw a couple of squirrels inside the bird cage that is in our porch.

So tomorrow I get to do all the things that I meant to do today plus trying to do everything that needs to get down tomorrow but at least our porch is re-screened and lots of other little things around the house are fixed too.

The last few days have been chaotic hell for me,
The other day while trying to do 10+ things at once I threw away a bunch of system files on Christine's Macbook by accident. Normally not a big deal except our 10.5 installer disk somehow got damaged as I found out after spending a few hours trying to figure out why it wouldn't boot her laptop so I got to do a restore of her system the hard way doing it manually from a backup. Ended up wasting about a day and a half restoring everything.

Finally got the new 3G iPhone the other day and gave my old one to Christine. Naturally she couldn't activate and setup my old, her new, iPhone until after I got her Macbook up and running again. I don't think we could have picked a worst time to upgrade our cell phones.

All this at the same time I'm on a rather steep learning curve of setting up a network of Video On Demand Theaters. Still have a ton of setup to do but I'm starting to understand how this software works.

Seems people are reluctant to get recurring memberships in these hard financial times so today I spent a good part of the day setting up a video on demand theater and setting up links to it. I still have a lot more work to do but I really think video on demand is the future.

With both of us working so much our house had gotten kind of nasty so today after work we worked our asses off cleaning the house. There was so much cat hair that it looked like we had found another cat or two after sweeping it all up. It amazing how much of a workout it is sweeping and mopping a few thousand square feet of tile. I have muscles hurting that I didn't know I had. We both are taking tomorrow off. If we aren't too sore we may go kayaking or bike riding.
Christine's cell phone contract is up soon so we may go over to the AT&T store and see about me getting the new iPhone and then giving my old iPhone to Christine and then putting both phones on a family plan.

Florida writes discrimination into its constitution.

Disappointed with the dichotomy of the state I live in. Florida goes progressive and elects Obama but at the same time approves a discriminatory ban on gays, does not get rid of the ban for immigrant land ownership, does not give a tax break to install solar panels, and votes down funding for colleges. I find myself both proud and ashamed of the state I live in.

I was at the gym this morning and as I often do was reading the closed captioning on the news following the election coverage. Seeing the overwhelming approval of Obama from overseas was a very welcome sight. The world is a very small place and it is about time someone got elected president with roots of another race. Makes me think that our democratic process really does work. I got so emotional that my eyes started watering.

We are still having beautiful weather, guess that is why I live here despite that 62% that say I'm not entitled to equal rights, and still haven't had to put the A/C on.

Car Accident Pickup

Haven't had the A/C on in days. I love sleeping with the windows open.

It's been a relaxing day of a little work, a little bike ride, a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

For some odd reason I dug out my old, very dusty, candle making supplies today. I found enough recycled old wax to make a few candles and have a bunch more wicks and scents, but I need molds. Going to try to find some kewl looking reusable silicone ones for the next batch of candles.

For my bike ride I rode over to the voting place. Lots of people holding up signs on the sidewalk. The sign in front said no curbside voting today. (didn't know that they ever had curbside voting) Didn't see any line or anyone actually voting at all which I found very odd.

Mostly Obama signs in my neighborhood so I guess I live in the right place. Many of the places that had Obama signs also had vote no on the gay marriage ban. Didn't see any signs opposing the marriage ban at McCain supporters. I also noticed that the McCain supporters seemed to have much more manicured landscaping.

Started jogging tonight for the first time ever. I bought sneakers to jog last year but never actually did any jogging. Christine was literally running circles around me and I had to stop and rest a few times but did about two blocks. Going to try to make it part of my evening routine and I guess my goal will be to be able to go around the block one time without resting.
