Happy start of Hurricane Season
We had thunder storms from hell this morning that woke me up way too early. Today so far has just been a day of working and errands.
I guess I'm more or less ready for hurricane season…
I've trimmed all my trees so that nothing can fall on my house and have shutters for all my window plus my patio. I wanted to get shutters for over my garage door but that is going to have to wait for next year.
My generator is only 5500 watts but that is enough to run a one room portable A/C plus the microwave, some ceiling fans, most of the lights in my house, one element of my stove, computers and modems, phones, garage door, TVs, satellite dish, and a few other small things. If I want to heat hot water I have to turn off the A/C but water stays hot for a few days or until you use it. The advantage of running a smaller generator is it uses less fuel. It uses 10 gallons of gasoline each 24 hours so my 182.5 gallons of gas that I have stored will keep me powered for 18 days.
After the last two hurricanes there was no problems in buying generators and one room A/C units at the local Home Depot so if we got hit bad again this year during a hot time of year I might pickup another one room A/C and a small generator to run it just to cool an extra room of my house as long as fuel didn't become a problem so that I didn't have to live in my bedroom again.
I have both a cable modem and a ADSL line for internet so hopefully at least one will stay working again after a storm.
Not looking forward at all to another active season.
